Bag Measurements & Fit
Consult our Bag Measurement Guide for insights on how the dimensions of our meticulously crafted luxury bags translate when worn over the shoulder, across the torso, or draped over your arm.
Terminologies Of Handbag Measurements: Length, Depth, And Height
Here we use the dimensions of our 72 Smalldive Grey Top Handle Tote for a comprehensive understanding of Length, Height, and Depth — commonly disclosed bag measurements. Refer to the accompanying image for a visual breakdown of these dimensions. Note that Length is sometimes referred to as the width of the bag, and definitions may vary between brands. Always refer to the vendor's glossary for precise information. These dimensions collectively offer insight into the volumetric space within a bag.
Terminologies Of Handbag Measurements: Shoulder and Handle Drop
We use the handle drop of our 72 Smalldive Grey Top Handle Tote and Shoulder Handbag as an illustration. Handle drop is the distance from the handle strap tip to the top edge of the bag. This measurement helps determine if the top handle is suitable for carrying over your lower arm or wrist. For shoulder and crossbody bags, the drop is the distance from the fully hung strap tip to the top edge. Understanding drop assists in gauging how the bag will position when worn over the shoulder or across the torso.
Determining the "Fit" of a Shoulder Bag
Refer to the Croqui illustration depicting varying drop lengths of shoulder bags. Shoulder bags typically drop to the mid or lower waist of the torso (45 to 60 cm). Follow these steps to ascertain the bag's position when worn over the shoulder:
- Verify the drop length.
- If unavailable, derive it by dividing the total strap length by 2.
- Measure to the given drop length using a sartorial measuring tape, strap, or ribbon.
- Place the measured tape/strap/ribbon across your shoulder blade, near the clavicle, hanging down towards your waist.
- The tape/strap/ribbon's end indicates the approximate position of the top edge of the handbag.
- Optionally, compare your desired drop length with the bag drop shown on the product page, using the Croquis figure as a guide.
For comfort, a shoulder handbag should rest at the mid-waist. When worn across the torso, the drop length should end at your hip. Account for heavy coats by measuring with the coat on. Note that adjustable straps can modify the drop length.
Determining the "Fit" of a Crossbody Bag
Review the Croquis figures illustrating how a Cross Body Bag may fit. Crossbody bags, designed for torso wear, have drop lengths between 50 to 65 cm. Follow these steps:
- Verify the drop dimension.
- If unavailable, derive it by dividing the total strap length by 2.
- Measure to the given drop length using a sartorial measuring tape, strap, or ribbon.
- Place the measured tape/strap/ribbon diagonally across your torso, from shoulder blade to hip, maintaining equal distance from front and back.
- The measured length's end indicates the approximate top edge position of the handbag.
- Optionally, compare your desired drop length with the indicated bag drop on the product page, referencing the provided Croquis figure.
Adjustable straps allow for modifying the drop length for optimal comfort.
